About Us

In beautiful, peaceful surroundings on the edge of the forest in the heart of the Mullerthal region, Isabel and Philippe Boulliat have transformed a former water mill into very special retreat, combining an eco-hotel and a gastronomic restaurant, in perfect harmony with nature and with the seasons.

In a calm rural setting on the edge of the Mullerthal forest, the hotel grounds are still home to the pretty burbling stream that used to power the old mill and a flower-filled terrace for guests to relax. Preserving the wonderful natural environment that surrounds it is central to the Au Vieux Moulin philosophy and the hotel is a pioneer in eco-friendly hospitality, creating an environment that is stunning, but also sustainable, thanks to cutting-edge energy and water saving initiatives. In the restaurant, Philippe creates exquisite seasonal dishes, using the very best local produce, including game, fruit and vegetables and fresh fish.

Guests have the choice between Classic rooms, located in the original building, and Eco rooms in the newly built ecological extension. Both types are elegantly furnished in soft, sophisticated cream and chocolate, with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside and the mill stream. There is free Wi-Fi for guests throughout the hotel and free parking facilities.

Philippe Boulliat’s cuisine is assured classic French gastronomy of the highest order, with a creative touch. He specializes in fresh fish, lobster and game, with dishes such as supreme of wild duck with pomegranate and cinnamon or Brittany scallops with a watercress and a light Combova sauce. Au Vieux Moulin’s ecological vocation means that using the very best local, seasonal and fair trade produce is central to Philippe’s philosophy. The restaurant is a beautiful, elegant space, in harmony with its stunning natural surroundings, ideal for special occasions or intimate romantic dinners, or simply for an indulgent treat after a day in the open air.

Breakfast is served in a pretty, light-filled room in the new building, and includes plenty of regional produce, home made jams, organic honey and organic cereals.

The 112 stunning kilometres of the Mullerthal trail await guests, with 3 very different hiking circuits, taking in forests and rock formations, castles and meadows, plus several Extra Tours allowing walkers to discover even more of this beautiful region. Cyclists are equally spoiled in the area: Luxembourg has more than 600km of well marked and maintained cycle paths and 500km of mountain bike trails.

Beyond Mullerthal, the nearby Moselle valley with its vineyards and gently rolling landscapes is popular with wine lovers and nature enthusiasts alike. The outstanding natural beauty and fascinating history of the Luxembourg Ardennes is only 40 minutes away.

For those looking to combine nature and city sophistication, Luxembourg City, home to the UNESCO heritage old fortified town, is a half hour drive away whilst the cities of Metz and Trier are within easy reach, less than 100 kilometres from the hotel.

The General Directorate of Tourism of the Ministry of the Economy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg awarded our hotel the EcoLabel Gold!

We are very pleased with this certification and this recognition for our ever more environmentally friendly practices.
